Over 17 million tons of fabric waste is created in the United States every year. The global textile and clothing industry is responsible for almost 100 million tons of waste every year. Despite these staggering statistics, there are many solutions to reduce fabric waste. One practice that has gained popularity in recent years are zero-waste patterns, which use every piece of fabric purchased. This dress uses every piece of fabric, repurposing scraps into purposeful design elements and leaving zero fabric waste.
This dress is made from a thick, stretch faux suede. The neckline is a cowl neck with the natural selvage still attached finishing the edges of the neckline as well as the hem in an effort to reduce fabric waste. There are pockets that are created out of the fabric cut out of the armholes, ensuring none of the fabric goes to waste while maintaining luxurious elements.
